My Train Journey to Hua Hin

Recently, I think Hua Hin is the hottest place for traveling.
As a matter of fact, I want to go there long time ago but just did not put it into an action.
Until I read a blog related to discovery Hua Hin by train and finally decided to move on.

This is my second experience to travel by train.
Although it's a long journey, I'm quite comfortable with it!
After set up a travel date (mid of Dec, 2014), I purchased train ticket (Bukit Mertajam to Hua Hin) from BM train station.
Normally it opens for sales one month before (only available for one way ticket).
It's better to purchase upper bed and lower bed together, then you can sit opposite to your travel partner in the same row.
Train Ticket Fare: Upper Bed (RM105.20) and Lower Bed (RM97.20)
Departure: 2.41pm     Arrival: Next Day 6.50am (Thailand local time)
Coach number: 36 International Express (From Butterworth to Bangkok)

For return ticket, you can only purchase in Thailand (any train station).
I made a train ticket booking via phone and asked my Thailand friend to pick up next day.
Then, I get from her during my business trip.
Train Ticket Fare: Upper Bed (1135 Baht) and Lower Bed (1045 Baht)
Departure: 6.45pm       Arrival: Next day 12.32pm (Malaysia local time)
Coach number: 35 International Express (From Bangkok to Butterworth)

What you can do here:

a) If you have a friend in Thailand or any friend travel to Thailand, you may ask them to help you to pick up the ticket (remember to pass them a copy of your passport, if you purchase many tickets, only one passport is required). First of all, you can make a phone booking one day before (passport number required) as the booking reservation is valid until next day 4pm only, then it will be cancelled automatically.
Thailand Train Ticket Booking (Tel): +66 2 265 8080
P/S: Normally ticket is opened for sales one month before, but for Thailand, it might be earlier. Please call to confirm to avoid any disappointment as the seat is very limited.

b) If you plan to buy return ticket on the spot upon arriving, be prepared the ticket might be sold out.
Then, you can purchase return ticket from Hua Hin to Hatyai and then Hatyai to Butterworth at the same counter.

c) If the train from Hatyai to Butterworth is fully booked, another option is return by bus (from Hatyai).
Bus Online Booking: http://www.easybook.com/
(Departure: Hatyai; Arrival: Penang Komtar)
The best they can do for you--- drop off at Butterworth

d) Return by flight (Bangkok to Penang)

Here starts my train journey!
The train is clean and the seat is quite comfortable!
Traveling by train is definitely a good way to get a peace of mind.

Backpacking experience!
Inside the train

Relax and view the beautiful scene!
During the long journey, we can view the beautiful scene, watch a couple of movies, listening to music and chit-chatting.

The train service is including currency exchange, dinner and breakfast offer (it is optional, pay by your own). Since we brought our own food and snacks, we just ordered one set of dinner for sharing.

Upon arriving border, the train will be stopped, all of us have to walk out for custom checking.
After entering Thailand, Thai women will carry some food and sell on board if there is any stop.

At the night time, train staff will help us to set up the bed.

Our seats become bed. Pillow and blanket are provided.

We have privacy as our beds cover by curtain!
We had a good sleep for whole night long.
After awake, we had our breakfast and soon arrive at Hua Hin station.

Breakfast on board
Hua Hin, here we come!!!

Food Trail from Balik Pulau to Island Plaza

23th July 2011 Saturday Sunny Day

I used to read a blog which related to a Laksa place in Balik Pulau.
It has piqued my interest to go there and try.

But I have no idea where is the exact location.
I just know it is located at Balik Pulau and in the midway to Teluk Bahang.
My friend and I drove all the way up to Balik Pulau
and followed the road sign to Teluk Bahang.
We were about to give up after driving around for quite a while
but did not see any sign.
For last try, we decided to drive up to the winding mountain road.
Here we go! Finally we could see the signboard with HOME COOKED ASSAM LAKSA.
Hurray, we made it!! So excited!

There is the only house set on the hill.
I like its ancient design & the ambience is wonderful!
It's a ideal place for relaxing.

Perhaps the laksa is not the best in the town,
but we quite enjoy it.
The Laksa noodles are so delicious and the fish soup is very fresh.
I would say it is worth to have this laksa at such a nice place.

Besides Laksa, they sell Pai Tee as well.
It is also a very good side dishes to have.

Next, we were heading back to Balik Pulau.
Initially we would like to have some branded Durian.
But, unfortunately the season is over.
Good quality durians are limited and selling real fast.
It was too late for us to be there as all were sold out.
But, we still ordered one with medium quality since already here.
We would definitely come back next year! That's a promise.

I love frozen yogurt!
If you think of Froyo, then you must go to Trutti Frutti.
We went to the one which located at Island Plaza.
It is self-service. But, do not be freak out!
There are just a few simple steps that you need to follow.

1.Select a cup size.
2.Dispense the flavor that you like(death by chocolate, strawberry, grape, vanilla, peach and mix berrillious).
3.Choose your favor topping such as gummy bear, M&M, fruits, mashmallow and etc.
4.Weight it and pay.

Easy and Yummy!

Before heading back, we shop around at Cold Storage.
I was so surprise as it is much bigger than the one in Gurney.
It's a good place to grab everything that I have been craving for....
I ended up buying zucchini, bacon, Cheezit and Japanese Edamame.
Next round, I guess I should get some salami, Italian sausage, Nachos, Salsa and Tortilla!

It's a fruitful day......

Road Trip to Ipoh--Day 1

7.30am depart from Penang to Ipoh.
On the way, we passed by Dato' Michelle Yeoh former school-St' Michael.
I was so impressed with its architecture. It's a true church masterpiece. Gorgeous!

Our first stop is Fu Shan Dim Sum Restaurant, which located at Ipoh downtown.
We met up KL Loop and had breakfast there.
This is the most grand Dim Sum Restaurant I have ever been.
They employed Chinese vintage interior design and their workers are dressed in traditional wear as well.
I was dazzled by a variety types of Dim Sum.
Most of them are so delicious!

Next destination is Kellie Castle in Batu Gajah. It's about 20 minutes away from Ipoh.If I hadn't gotten there, I never would have known there is a castle in Perak.
It was owned by William Kellie-Smith, a Scottish rubber planter in Malaysia in the early of 19th Century. But, it was never to be completed due to the sudden demise of William. Eventually, it became a haunted house and now open to the public.
I really like its Greco-Roman design. It is able to make a misconception that I were in Italy...

As we know, Ipoh is famous with many natural caves. We decided to visit 3 caves in a row--Sam Poh Tong, Nan Tian Tong and Ling Sen Tong. Various statues of Buddha and deities are placed respectively inside the caves.

What is the hottest food in Ipoh?? It certainly goes to Bean Sprout Chicken. Definitely, we had it as our dinner at Lao Huang restaurant. Meanwhile, we bought another well-known food--Salted Chicken to eat along.

Penang Half DayTrip

22 August 2010

I did not real explore Penang Island in ages.
Such a shame for being a Penangite as I don't know well about Penang.

My friend organized a Penang half day trip and I definitely joined them.
First stop: Toy Museum
It is owned by Mr Loh Lean Cheng with his toys, dolls, and other fun figuring collections. Some of the collectibles are able to recall our childhood memories such as Popeye, Combat, Ninja Turtles and etc.
It's pretty much fun to see especially for kids.

2nd Stop: Pinang Peranakan Mansion (Baba & Nyonya House)

Peranakan (a.k.a. Baba & Nyonya) was a Chinese community who adopted
the selected ways of local Malay and settled especially in the Strait Settlement
(Penang, Malacca and Singapore) in the late 15th and 16th century. Therefore, the other name for Peranakan is called Strait Chinese.

This heritage mansion is huge and well-presented their custom and tradition.
I was so impressed with its architecture especially the carved-wood artwork.
Definitely a worth place to visit!

Last Stop: Bukit Genting
We drove up to the top of Bukit Genting.
It's a nice little place to relax yourself with its mountain view.

We had our dinner here with Thai food and then waiting for sunset.
This was my first time to see the sunset.
You have to be more patience to observe the whole process from the beginning until
the sun sets down.

It was a wonderful day!
Hopefully we could have more trips to go......

Y Junction

Life is hard! But nothing is easy...
I have been struggling in my working life.
A lot of thoughts have crossed my mind.

I thought this is the best chance and the best time to go for a change.
But, not really a good offer!
It's time to make an important decision.
This has made the current situation tougher!

If you were me, which one would you take?
A.An OK pay, calm, stable and non-challenging job;
OR
B.A very low pay with allowance plus commission (unstable pay), frequent outstation to oversea, high risk, high challenging, high tension job.

If they would offer me the consolidate between A pay and B tasks, then it's perfect!
But, life won't be perfect.
This is the problem.

At the Y junction now.
To be honest,I don't want to miss the chance that I keen on,
but the challenging is way too high for a noob like me!
For the current job, the pay is not so bad but the task is suck!
What should I do???
Kindly advise me if you could.

Jewel of Muscat

5 June 2010 Saturday

It's hardly to get a whole weekend off.
Thanks for Yang di-pertuan Agung's birthday!

Kar Mun and I wandered around Penang Island.
We went to PISA food fair.
It was congested.
We watched the chef challenge competition and had some food samples
but ended up with buying nothing.

I used to read an article about Jewel of Muscat ship from newspaper.
Today we had luck to see it at ferry port.
It is a reconstruction of 9th-century ship and sailing from Oman to Singapore.
The unique of this ship is building without any nail.
Coconut fibers were sewn together to build the hull and each timber has had to fit perfectly. The sail was made from palm leave.
This is truly amazing!!!

We stopped by Penang road to have a Chendul from the very famous hawker stall- Teochew Chendul. They also have a branch at Komtar Walk.
You could see the stall is always crammed with crowd.

After that, Times Square was our next destination.
But, it was totally freaked me out!
There were only few shops opening.
A little spooky and I felt so disappointed.

Lastly, we had a nice dinner at Da Han Ming Guo-Korean restaurant.
It is located at Prima Tanjung 98-01-40, opposite Island Plaza.
I have known it from GuangMing Daily.
It is a home-style restaurant which is operated by a Korean lady.
We ordered spicy noodle, kimchi noodle and BBQ pork.
The foods were delicious!

Spicy Noodle

Kimchi Noodle

BBQ pork

This is the way how you eat BBQ pork with vege, garlic, green chili and sauce!

This was a perfect holiday!
Even though I live in Penang but I am not familiar with it at all.
Such a shame!
Penang is known as "The Pearl of Orient", it is so beautiful.
I love it very much.
I feel like I am a tourist every time I visit the island.
Hopefully all Penangites could co-operate in order to keep the island clean and healthy.
I would love to explore more about it......

She Fu 17 Penang Gathering

29 May 2010 Saturday night Heavy Rain

I didn't meet She Fu 17 activity partners in ages.
Last month, a gathering was held in Full House, Sunway Pyramid.

From clockwise: Wan King, Eyan Nee, Kang Kang, Chew Hwa, Li Peng, Xue Wen, Me and Jiang Fei

This month, I decided to organize a small one especially for Penangites.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good.
It was raining heavily and storming around...
Despite the bad weather, most of us insisted to show up
as we didn't want to disappoint each others.
And, we knew that it's hardly to get everyone together since the busy working life.

The devil rain put us in a very sorry plight.
Nobody expected to end up in such situation.
But, it's still funny, embarrass, excited......

We had our dinner at Manhattan Fish Market, Autocity.
The attendance was 4 out of 5. Not bad at all.
I ordered a marinara seafood spaghetti and hot chocolate.
The rest of them ordered Herb Dory fish and rice, fish n chip and seafood fettucini.
The foods were delicious!
We enjoyed our girl talks--sharing about life, complaining about work,
discussing about guys and bla bla bla!

From clockwise: Chun Peng, Chien Hooi, Me and Kar Mun

Finally, the devil rain was turning into angel smile.
Saturday night was still young.
We walked around before dismiss.
We found Hitz.fm on Wheel-the radio channel promotion bus, nearby the lover's bridge.
Of course, we were on board to grab some freebies.
But, we had no luck to win any shirt.
Oh well, we continued to window shop in the park.

It's time to say goodbye.
We promised ourself more activities are coming up.
This was really a sweet gathering!
