Jewel of Muscat

5 June 2010 Saturday

It's hardly to get a whole weekend off.
Thanks for Yang di-pertuan Agung's birthday!

Kar Mun and I wandered around Penang Island.
We went to PISA food fair.
It was congested.
We watched the chef challenge competition and had some food samples
but ended up with buying nothing.

I used to read an article about Jewel of Muscat ship from newspaper.
Today we had luck to see it at ferry port.
It is a reconstruction of 9th-century ship and sailing from Oman to Singapore.
The unique of this ship is building without any nail.
Coconut fibers were sewn together to build the hull and each timber has had to fit perfectly. The sail was made from palm leave.
This is truly amazing!!!

We stopped by Penang road to have a Chendul from the very famous hawker stall- Teochew Chendul. They also have a branch at Komtar Walk.
You could see the stall is always crammed with crowd.

After that, Times Square was our next destination.
But, it was totally freaked me out!
There were only few shops opening.
A little spooky and I felt so disappointed.

Lastly, we had a nice dinner at Da Han Ming Guo-Korean restaurant.
It is located at Prima Tanjung 98-01-40, opposite Island Plaza.
I have known it from GuangMing Daily.
It is a home-style restaurant which is operated by a Korean lady.
We ordered spicy noodle, kimchi noodle and BBQ pork.
The foods were delicious!

This is the way how you eat BBQ pork with vege, garlic, green chili and sauce!

This was a perfect holiday!
Even though I live in Penang but I am not familiar with it at all.
Such a shame!
Penang is known as "The Pearl of Orient", it is so beautiful.
I love it very much.
I feel like I am a tourist every time I visit the island.
Hopefully all Penangites could co-operate in order to keep the island clean and healthy.
I would love to explore more about it......
